In the year 1967, Taupin responded to an advertisement in New Musical Express by Liberty Records. John also responded to the same advertisement and they met working on several albums since. John and Taupin were both inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame 1992. John was the son of Robert Taupin, and Daphne and Daphne, daughters of John Leonard Palchett Poppy Cort and Daphne, both educated at the University of Cambridge as classical instructors and the former rector of Sale, Greater Manchester (then was known as Cheshire).
