Bernard John Taupin CBE (born 22 May 1950) is a famous English musician, songwriter and visual artist. His long-running collaboration with Elton John, one of the most successful songwriting partnerships ever is what makes him the most famous. Taupin wrote the lyrics to the majority John's hits. In 1967, Taupin responded to an advertisement in New Musical Express by Liberty Records. John also responded to the same advertisement and they met, collaborating on many albums in the time since. John and Taupin were both inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame 1992. John was the son of Robert Taupin, and Daphne, daughters of John Leonard Palchett Poppy Cort, who were both University of Cambridge-educated classical teachers, and the former rectors of Sale, Greater Manchester (then also known as Cheshire).
