Brian Anthony Boitano, born on the 22nd of October, 1963 in Sunnyvale, California is an American figure skating champion. He was the 1988 Olympic Champion 1988, 1986 and 1988 World Champion, as well as the 1985-88 U.S. National Champion. He was a professional following the season of 1988. He participated at the 1994 Winter Olympics and placed sixth in the new ISU rules. He was elevated to professional status in 1994. Boitano was inducted into the American Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1996. Boitano was a graduate of Marian A. Peterson High School, Sunnyvale, California. Boitano is an Italian American citizen with a family that hails from northern Italy. He has lived in San Francisco since he was an adult. In 1984, he finished second at the United States Figure Skating Championships. This resulted in him being a participant at the 1984 Winter Olympics. The Olympic medal he earned was 5th, setting the scene for his successes over the next four years.
