David Amyrico Ortiz Arias (born on November 18 1975), nicknamed "Big Papi" is a Dominican-American ex-designated hitter (DH) and first baseman in Major League Baseball who played in the American League (AL) from 1997 to 2016 primarily in the Boston Red Sox. After playing parts of six seasons for the Minnesota Twins with unremarkable results, Ortiz moved to the Red Sox, where he played a leading role in ending the team's 86-year World Series championship drought in 2004, as well as winning titles in 2007 and 2013, and in 2013, he was named the World Series Most Valuable Player in 2013. He averaged 41 home runs per season and 128 RBIs during the first five seasons of the club. After spending a portion of six seasons with the Minnesota Twins with little to no success, Ortiz was transferred to the Red Sox where he played a leading role in ending the team's 86-year World Series championship drought in 2004. Alongside winning championships in 2007 and 2013 Ortiz was named the World Series Most Valuable Player in 2013.
