David Amyrico Ortiz Arias, a Dominican-American former designated hitter (DH) and first baseman of Major League Baseball, was born November 18, 1975. He was a major player for the Boston Red Sox in the American League (AL). After spending a few seasons with the Minnesota Twins with unremarkable results, Ortiz moved to the Red Sox, where he was a key player in ending the team's 86-year World Series championship drought in 2004 as well as winning titles in 2013 and 2007. In addition, he was named the World Series Most Valuable Player in 2013. He hit 41 home runs per season and 128 RBIs during the five years he was with the club. After spending a portion of six seasons with the Minnesota Twins with disappointing results, Ortiz made the move to the Red Sox where he played the leading role in ending the team's 86-year-old World Series championship drought in 2004. In addition to winning championships in 2007 as well as 2013, Ortiz was named the World Series Most Valuable Player in 2013.
