George Harvey Strait Sr. was born May 18, 1952 and is a famous American country music songwriter, singer and performer. He also acts as an actor as well as a music producer. Strait is famous for being the "King of Country", and is one of the most popular and influential recording artists of all time. He is credited with igniting the neotraditionalist nation movement during the late 1980s. His simple image of a cowboy and roots-oriented music were a major factor in the rise of the neotraditionalist movement and the demise of pop-country. The 1980s saw seven albums by Strait topped the country charts. Strait received his first Grammy for his album Troubadour in 2000. He was also named Artist of the Decade at the Academy of Country Music and elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Strait was named CMA Entertainer of the Year in the year 1989.
