Martin Scorsese

 producer, screenwriter and actor. He is the recipient of numerous important awards such as the Academy Award, a Grammy Award, three Emmy Awards, four British Academy Film Awards, two Directors Guild of America Awards as well as an AFI Life Achievement Award and the Kennedy Center Honor in 2007. Five of his films have been inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant".Scorsese received an MA from New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development in 1968. His directorial debut with Who's That Knocking on My Door (1967), was admitted in the Chicago Film Festival. Scorsese was a major figure during the New Hollywood era of the 1970s and the 1980s. The Scorsese films, which are heavily in the tradition of his Italian-American heritage and New York City childhood, focus on insecure macho men. They also deal with the notions of machismo, crime, and Catholic notions of guilt, redemption as well as graphic representations and extreme violence.
