Amy Lou Adams (born August 20, 1974) is an American actress. Known for both her comedic and dramatic roles her name has been mentioned three times in the annual ranking of the highest-paid actresses in the world. Her accolades include two Golden Globe Awards and nominations for six Academy Awards and seven British Academy Film Awards. She made her debut on film with Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) in which she portrayed a supporting role. She appeared in guest roles on TV and played "mean girl" parts in low-budget feature films. Her first role of note was in Steven Spielberg's biopic Catch Me If You Can (2002) However, she was laid off for a year afterward. She made her breakthrough in 2005, when she played an intelligent, pregnant woman in Junebug (2005). The unorthodox comedy-drama earned her the first Academy Award nomination.
