Benjamin Geza Affleck[b] (born August 15 in 1972) is an American actor and filmmaker. His awards include two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and the Volpi Cup, the principal award for actors at the Venice Film Festival. As a youngster actor, he was a part of the PBS educational program The Voyage of the Mimi (1984-1988). Later, he appeared in independent comedy Dazed & Confused (1993) as well as numerous Kevin Smith films including Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997) and Dogma (1999). Affleck was recognized more than he was when he and his childhood friend Matt Damon won both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting (1997). They also appeared in it. Affleck then made himself an actor of note in the studio film industry, which included the disaster film Armageddon (1998) The war-themed drama Pearl Harbor (2001), and the thrillers The Sum of All Fears and Changing Lanes (both 2002).
