Eric Patrick Clapton CBE, born on March 30, 1945 is an English musician, singer-songwriter, guitarist and a singer of blues and rock. Clapton is widely considered to be one of the most influential and well-known guitarists in rock music. Clapton was placed second on the Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists" list and was ranked fourth on Gibson's "Top 50 Guitarists" list. He also made the list published by Time magazine in 2009 of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players". Clapton, who was previously a member of several local groups and bands, joined the Yardbirds as their founding guitarist. Clapton left the Yardbirds in 1965, after becoming unhappy with the transition from blues to pop rock. He then was a part of John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers. After recording one album together with Mayall, Clapton formed Cream that featured Clapton's blues-based improvisations as well as "arty, blues-influenced, psychedelic rock". The group was formed by the blues-rock group Blind Faith in November 1968 together with Baker, Steve Winwood and Ric Grech. They released one album and played in one concert before breaking up.
