Eric Patrick Clapton CBE (born 30 March 1945) is an English blues and rock musician, singer, and songwriter. He is regarded as one of the most popular and influential rock guitarists. Clapton was ranked second on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists" list and fourth on Gibson's "Top 50 Guitarists" list. He also topped the 2009 list by Time magazine of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players". Clapton, who was previously a member of many local bands was a member of the Yardbirds as their founding guitarist. Unhappy with the shift in the Yardbirds sound from blues rock to a more popular radio-friendly pop rock style, Clapton left in 1965 to join John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. After recording one album with Mayall, Clapton formed Cream, which featured Clapton's blues improvisations as well as "arty, blues-influenced, psychedelic rock". The group was formed by the blues-rock band Blind Faith in November 1968 with Baker, Steve Winwood and Ric Grech. They released one album and performed on one tour before breaking up.
