Kate Winslet

Kate Elizabeth Winslet CBE (/'wInzl@t born 5 October 1975) is an English actress. She is well-known for her independent films, particularly period dramas, as well being a role model for complicated and strong women. She has been awarded numerous awards, among them an Academy Award and a Grammy Award. Time magazine named Winslet among the 100 most influential people across the globe in both the years 2009 and 2021. In 2012, she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire. When she was 15, her first screen appearance was on the British TV series Dark Season (1991). She made her film debut as a teenage murderess on Heavenly Creatures (1994), and then went on to win a BAFTA Award for playing Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility (1995). The role of the lead in Titanic (1997), an epic romantic film that was the highest-grossing movie at the time, helped her achieve global stardom. Winslet later eschewed roles in blockbusters to focus on critically acclaimed period pieces, like Quills (2000) and Iris (2001).
