Ana Lila Downs Sanchez, an Mexican musician and singer was born on September 9, 1968. She sings her own compositions as well as those of other artists. She also draws inspiration from Mexican traditional and popular music. She was born and was raised in Oaxaca. She attended the Institute of Arts of Oaxaca. After a brief time at the University of Minnesota she decided to focus on her music career. In 1994 she began performing in the Oaxaca traditional music scene. Downs' debut album, La Sandunga (a commercial and critically acclaimed success), came out in 1999. With Border the album that she released her debut that was a huge success, Downs made it to the international charts in 2001. The album was a huge success across Latin America and Mexico in the 2000s (decade). Downs's seventh album, Pecados y milagros .
