Mariah Carey (/m@'raI@/; born March 27, 1969) is an American singer as well as songwriter, actress and record producer. Referred as the "Songbird Supreme" and the "Queen of Christmas" She is known for her vocal range of five octaves and melismatic style of singing her trademark use of the whistle register, and songwriting. Carey became a household name when she released her debut album. Carey was the first singer to have her first five singles climb to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. These were "Vision of Love" and "Emotions". Carey was engaged to Tommy Mottola three years later. Carey was able to achieve further success with the albums Music Box (1993), Merry Christmas (1994), and Daydream (1995), with songs like "Hero", "Without You", "All I Want for Christmas is You", "Fantasy", "Always Be My Baby", and "One Sweet Day" which was the top single on the US Billboard Hot 100 decade-end chart (1990s). Carey changed his look after splitting from Mottola and added hip-hop elements to Butterfly (1997).
