Patti LaBelle

 Patricia Louise Holte (born May 24, 1944)best known as Patti LaBelle is an American actor, singer and businesswoman. LaBelle is referred to as the "Godmother of Soul".She started her professional career in the mid 1960s as lead singer and the frontwoman of the group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. After the group's name change to Labelle in the late 1970s in the 1970s, they released the cult top-selling hit "Lady Marmalade". The result was that after the group split in 1976, LaBelle began a successful solo career. This began with her critically-acclaimed debut album, featuring the track that would define her career, "You Are My Friend". Following the singles "If You Knew", Love, Need and Want You", and later "Stir It Up", LaBelle was a huge solo artist. The following year, LaBelle, along with Michael McDonald, scored the #1 album Winner in You. The track "On My Own" was also a hit. In 1989 Be Yourself gave birth to the popular "If You Asked me To" that Celine Dion later did a cover of. LaBelle received the 1992 Grammy for Best Female R&B.
