Kevin Jerome Gilyard, born on February 5, 1986, is better called Kevin Gates, an American musician, entrepreneur, and rapper. He is currently associated with the Bread Winners' Association through a collaboration with Atlantic Records. The first album of his studio, Islah was released in January of 2016. It reached the top spot at 2 on the US Billboard 200 charts. Gates had previously released several mixtapes prior to Islah. They included Stranger Than Fiction and By Any Means. All of them reached the top 40 of the Billboard 200 charts.evin Jerome Gilyard was the child of an Puerto Rican mother, and an African American father. After the move to New Orleans, Louisiana with his family, he moved to Baton Rouge. Gates was a troubled youngster and was caught in 1999 after being in a stolen vehicle as an innocent passenger. While he lost contact with his father at a young age but he was able to reconnect with his father later in his teens. Gates was then 14 years old. He passed away from complications brought on by AIDS. He attended a brief time at Baton Rouge Community College when the age was 17. Gates is of Puerto Rican and Moroccan descent.
