Stephen Glenn Martin was born on August 14, 1945. He is an actor comedian, writer and actor from the United States. Martin has been awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 2013 and has also received five Grammy Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award. In 2016, he was nominated for two Tony Awards. He was awarded the Mark Twain award for American comedy, Kennedy Center Honors and AFI Life Achievement Award. Martin was ranked as sixth on the list of Comedy Central's 100 stand-up comics in 2004. He also won the Kennedy Center Honors and the Mark Twain Award for Humor in America, as well as the AFI Life Achievement Award. Martin first came to prominence in the late 1960s, when he wrote a script for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. In 1969 the show won him an award called the Primetime Emmy Award for his work. Later, he was a regular host on Saturday Night Live. Martin's humorous and offbeat routines were staged in front of packed theatres on national tours during the 1970s. Martin was a retired comedian from stand-up comedy by the 1980s, has become a well-known actor, and appeared in movies such as The Jerk (1979).
